You will make a difference--just be yourself.Imagine a child's eyes lighting up the first time he or she walks into a baseball stadium or sees a live crocodile up close. Not only can you be there when it happens, but you can be the reason it did. With the help of dedicated and fun volunteers, Big Brothers Big Sisters is able to provide positive adult friendships for many Central Susquehanna Valley youth. BBBS has volunteer opportunities to fit any lifestyle or schedule. You can participate in the following: Big Brother or Big Sister (volunteers age 18 & up): A Big Brother or Big Sister (Big) is a volunteer who spends time with his or her Little Brother or Sister 2 hours a week for a minimum of one year. Our Big Brothers can be matched with a Little Brother and Big Sisters can be matched with either a Little Brother or Sister. Currently, there are over 80 children matched with an adult and they are having tons of fun!School-Based Mentoring: Volunteers in the School-Based Mentoring program are male and female high school students matched with a Little Brothers or Little Sister. The volunteer and child meet at the child's school for 90 minutes each week. The following schools are currently participating in the School-Based Mentoring program:
One-Time Volunteer Opportunities: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Susquehanna Valley has many one-time volunteer opportunities available including our two biggest fundraisers - Bowl for Kids Sake and Golf Marathon raiser. Please contact our office if you would be interested in volunteering with us.Volunteer Support: Much time and effort goes in the effective matching of a volunteer with a child. BBBS case managers spend time getting to know the volunteers and children in order to create a match that will be successful. A case manager is a professional staff member who is there to encourage, guide, and support the volunteer/child relationship.
